Anthony Davis pops up on Mavericks injury report as NBA trade season starts

The Dallas Mavericks are back in action on Monday night, getting set to face the Utah Jazz on the road at 8 p.m. CST. Dallas has won five of the last six games, picking up wins over teams like the Houston Rockets and Denver Nuggets, and hopes to keep that trend going against the lowly Jazz.
However, they may have to do it without star forward Anthony Davis, who appeared on Monday’s injury report with a left calf contusion, which has him listed as questionable to play. This is the same calf that had a strain that caused him to miss 14 straight games, and he just returned from it less than two weeks ago.
There haven’t been any known issues that have been seen in games as far as re-aggravating the injury, and he has mostly played well since returning from injury (as long as you forget about the OKC game). Maybe they’re just being cautious, especially since the Jazz will be without their top centers as well, but there’s something else that makes this fascinating.
Monday unofficially starts the NBA trade season, as it’s the first day that a lot of players who signed new contracts this offseason become trade-eligible. There are some exceptions, such as P.J. Washington, who can’t be traded until the offseason, but teams that need to match salary now have nearly every option at their disposal.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported that he wouldn’t be surprised to see a deal done around the NBA today or tomorrow, since players traded now would be trade eligible again just before the trade deadline, so could Anthony Davis be one of those players? Probably not, because the Mavericks want to see him play alongside Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving, who is still a ways away from returning.

The Dallas Mavericks will be without Dante Exum (right knee surgery), Dereck Lively II (right foot injury management), Kyrie Irving (left knee ACL recovery), and D’Angelo Russell (illness) in Monday’s game.
Anthony Davis, Daniel Gafford (right ankle injury management), and Brandon Williams (right Achilles soreness) are questionable to play. Gafford missed the last game and has been in and out of the lineup. Meanwhile, Cooper Flagg, who has been at least listed on the injury report with a thumb splint on his shooting hand for the last month, is no longer on the injury report.
For the Jazz, they’ll be without Jusuf Nurkic (rest), Walker Kessler (right shoulder surgery), and Georges Niang (left foot stress reaction).
