Wilfried Nancy already has Celtic escape route as French side eye making it third time lucky

Celtic boss Wilfried Nancy reportedly could be offered the chance to take over at Saint-Etienne should he leave the Glasgow giants. The Frenchman is already facing major scrutiny after three defeats in a row.
After arriving from Columbus Crew, Nancy has only had days to implement his football philosophy in the east end. But defeats to Hearts, Roma and St Mirren in the Premier Sports Cup final have put the 48-year-old under massive pressure ahead of the midweek clash with Dundee United.
Some Celtic heroes have already questioned how long he will be in the job, but before the trip to Tannadice Nancy came out swinging. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Nancy declared he doesn’t have to prove anything after a nightmare start.
A bizarre social media saga then erupted as a social media account that appears to belong to Hoops fired a cryptic message at his doubters. The X account has since been made private.
Foot-Sur7 now claim that Saint-Etienne are “monitoring” Nancy’s situation at Celtic Park. Eirik Horneland is currently in charge at the club and has led them to second in the Ligue 2 table.
But after winning only four of their last 10 league matches reports in France suggest he could be axed. It’s claimed Etienne have already failed to sign Nancy on two previous occasions.
Despite speculation over his future, Nancy insists he has the backing of the Parkhead board. He said on Tuesday: “I’m very grateful with the people that I work with.

“They know why I am here, they protect me, they know what I want to do for the club. They know where we are at this moment and we knew this moment could happen. But they know the most important thing is where do we want to go?
“There are bumps. Obviously, I would have preferred the opposite because trust me, when we do this job, when we lose, this is so difficult, so painful. But this is part of the job.
“But the club, the people within the club, the board and everyone has been spot-on.”
