A Bangladeshi leader form the 2024 student uprising, Osman Hadi, has died on Thursday. As per the official statement issued from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singapore, Sharif Osman Hadi succumbed to his injuries from an assassination attempt.

Hadi was evacuated by air from Bangladesh to the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit on December 15 to receive emergency medical treatment. The leader was airlifted days after he was shot in the head in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka.
“Despite the best efforts of the doctors from SGH and the National Neuroscience Institute, Mr Hadi succumbed to his injuries on 18 December 2025,” wrote Singapore MFA.
Singapore is currently working to assist the Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore city to repatriate the leader’s body back to Dhaka.
Critical after assassination attempt in Dhaka
Hadi was shot by unidentified assailants in Dhaka on December 12 while travelling in a battery-powered auto-rickshaw on Culvert Road in the Paltan area.
After the incident, he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital. From Evercare Hospital, the leader was then airlifted on Saturday to Singapore for better treatment and care.
Who was Osman Hadi?
Hadi was a member of the anti-Hasina platform Inqilab Manch. Also a candidate for the upcoming polls in February, Hadi was campaigning as an independent candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency at the time of the attack.
Inqilab Mancha came into focus during the July uprising in Bangladesh last yar, which ultimately led to the ouster of Sheikh Hasina.
The group, labelled as a radical outfit, has also been at the forefront of efforts to dismantle the Awami League. Despite its participation in the student uprising, the Yunus government disbanded the party and has barred it from contesting the national elections.
