Gethin Jones revealed it was his final day presenting BBC’s Morning Live on Friday as both he and Helen Skelton prepare for their Christmas hiatus.
The Welsh broadcaster is currently starring in Sleeping Beauty at Cardiff’s New Theatre, taking on the role of Prince Gethin of Gabalfa, which has required him to step back from his regular morning TV duties.
Usually, he presents alongside co-host Helen Skelton on Morning Live, but has taken leave during pantomime season.
Nevertheless, Gethin made his return to screens on Friday to present the year’s final Morning Live episode with Helen.
Following Alfie Boe’s festive performance to close the programme, Gethin declared: “We are taking a break, and we will be back on Monday, January 5, at 9.30am as usual,” reports Wales Online.
Helen added, “We have got one last Christmas gift for you now from the Bantam of the Opera choir.”

Gethin reminded viewers: “Don’t forget the documentary charting their emotional backstories on BBC One and iPlayer tomorrow at 4pm.”
Helen wrapped up the show saying: “From all of us, wherever you are, whoever you’re with this Christmas, we hope you have reasons to look forward and be thankful. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.”
The day before, Gethin posted a video message for his Instagram followers, sharing his pantomime journey: “Good morning, just on my way to the theatre for a two-show day. All going well, I haven’t been booed off yet, I see that as a positive.
“Back is holding up. Very boring rehab, but it needs to be done. Amazing crew, cast, the whole team which makes a big difference.”

He then addressed Morning Live viewers about his plans for the show. Gethin remarked: “A Couple of messages on here from people asking about Morning Live, which is very sweet.
“I’m very happy to say that I’ll be back with the team on Friday. I’ll be hosting on Friday with Hel. It’s the last Morning Live of the year. Then it’s a two-week break, and then we’re back on January the fifth.
“So, we do two shows in Cardiff on the Sunday in the panto, and then I go straight back up for the new series or the new year.”
He continued: “Excited to see the team on Friday, excited… to see you on Friday on screen, and by then we’ll be halfway through the panto run. Mad. Then it will be Christmas.
“So, yeah, that’s me, just getting to the theatre, having a ginger tea. Warm up and vocal warm-ups, show time.”
BBC Morning Live is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
