Starting pitcher Shane Bieber is getting the bump in the biggest Toronto Blue Jays game in decades in Monday night’s Game 7. And if this is the first time you’ll be watching Bieber pitch, I’m sure there’s a pertinent question on your mind:
Is he related to pop superstar Justin Bieber? Hey, it’s a fair question! Their last names are literally spelled exactly the same! One guy is Canadian (Justin) and the other guy plays in Canada (Shane). And hey, Justin is actually a Blue Jays fan. So, I get it!
But before you start running with some outright falsehoods, no, Shane Bieber and Justin Bieber are NOT related. Welp. Hilariously, though, Shane made light of his convenient, world-famous last name when he was a member of the Cleveland Guardians in 2019.

That special connection has continued. Bieber (the pitcher) wore a “Not Justin” jersey for Players’ Weekend, which is perfect as usual. So how did Bieber (the singer) respond? With a custom jersey of his own that says, “Not Shane Bieber.”
It’s good to see that this completely unrelated duo, in completely unrelated professional fields, has a sense of humor about their ironic naming situation.
