Multi-car rush-hour crash brings M62 to a standstill with huge 90-minute delays

A MAJOR UK motorway has closed following a multi-vehicle crash causing significant delays for morning commuters.
Tailbacks of over 90 minutes are being reported on the M62, which has closed eastbound between Junctions 8 and 9 around Warrington.

Emergency services are currently on the scene, according to National Highways: North-West.
It added: “Please allow plenty journey time if possible.”
Traffic monitoring system Inrix reported how all traffic was being “temporarily held” at around 7.15am.
Queues are understood to go back as far as junction 7.

No further information has been released in relation to the crash.
The M62 is a west-east trans-Pennine motorway connecting Liverpool and Hull via Manchester, Bradford, Leeds and Wakefield.
It has an average daily traffic flow of 144,000 vehicles in West Yorkshire alone – with at least the same number again East and West of the Pennines.
