ATP Vienna Day 3 Predictions Including Daniil Medvedev vs Nuno Borges

Daniil Medvedev swiftly returns to action after winning his first title in over two years in Almaty. The 2021 US Open champion faces Nuno Borges in his opening ATP Vienna match. That is one of three contests predicted here. We predict the other matches, including Jannik Sinner vs Daniel Altmaier, separately.
ATP Vienna Day 3 Predictions
Tomas Machac vs Flavio Cobolli
Head-to-head: Machac 1-0 Cobolli
Neither man enters this match with much form. Cobolli got thrashed when the pair met in January at the United Cup. The Czech’s backhand was relentless in that encounter, and he dominated the rallies with that shot by not allowing Cobolli to use his powerful forehand. On an indoor hard court, Machac will likely do that again if he plays well. This is a difficult matchup for the Italian, who would be most suited to playing Machac on clay.
Prediction: Machac in 2
Alex de Minaur vs Filip Misolic
Head-to-head: First meeting
This is the sole Round of 16 contest. De Minaur comfortably defeated Jurij Rodionov to continue his solid form. The Australian has reached at least the quarterfinals at his previous three tournaments, most recently the Shanghai Masters. Although a solid competitor, Misolic’s game is nowhere near de Minaur’s. He does not possess a significant weapon and will find it difficult to out-rally one of the fastest ATP players.
Prediction: de Minaur in 2

Daniil Medvedev vs Nuno Borges
Head-to-head: Medvedev 3-0 Borges
Medvedev’s first title since the 2023 Italian Open in Almaty felt significant. Splitting from Gilles Cervara, with whom he had so much success for eight years, after the US Open and hiring Tomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke was bold. Although only an ATP 250 event, the success could spur him on. Medvedev liked playing against Borges in their previous matches. The Portuguese does not possess overwhelming firepower, and Medvedev’s combination of wearing opponents down in the rallies and serving bigger works well.
Prediction: Medvedev in 2
