Game 1 of World Series to be shown on big screen outside Windsor city hall

With the Detroit Tigers out of the playoffs, the city of Windsor is officially throwing its support behind Canada’s only Major League Baseball team — the Toronto Blue Jays.

You can watch game one of the World Series this Friday on a giant screen in downtown Windsor.

It’ll be set up out front of Windsor city hall in the multi-use civic esplanade space.

The American League champion Jays square off in the best-of-seven series against the National League champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

Toronto hasn’t been to the fall classic since winning it in back-to-back years in 1992 and 1993. L.A. has won the title several times including last year and in 2020.

First pitch is set for just after 8 p.m., the same time the game’s viewing party is scheduled to begin.

Residents are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, blanket and wear Blue Jays gear.

The game broadcast will follow the city’s final Live at The Square concert series for the season.

Food and beverage vendors will be on site for the night.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together once again through sports and entertainment,” Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens said a statement put out by the city.

Chris MacLeod, chair of the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association, says he’s proud of the work that’s been done to give fans and families this opportunity.

“This thrilling event demonstrates the power of collaboration in bringing people together and energizing our downtown. When fans gather to celebrate in the core, local businesses thrive and our city shines.”
