‘We know what we need to do’ – Sligo Rovers go to Tallaght Stadium in final game knowing a draw will be enough

Rovers are currently eighth in the table, level on points with Galway (seventh) and Waterford (ninth).
Goal difference is all that separates the three sides, with Galway and Waterford going toe to toe on Saturday, while Sligo Rovers take on the newly crowned champions Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght Stadium.
A win will ensure Rovers’ safety, regardless of how the other game goes while a point will be enough for Rovers to avoid finishing ninth in the relegation/promotion play off spot, regardless of how the other game goes.
Should Rovers lose, though, they will be hoping that Galway can beat Waterford in that massive game.
Shamrock Rovers were crowned champions on Wednesday thanks to a 1-0 win over Galway.
It’s four years since the Bit O’Red last won at Tallaght Stadium, although the Bit O’Red have picked up a win and a draw against Stephen Bradley’s side at home this season.
And manager Russell is well aware of the task at hand.
“We know a win this weekend confirms our safety so we know what we need to do and the players have worked hard all week on what we’ve instructed”, Russell affirmed.
“The players and staff have worked extremely hard all year. Since the mid-season break, we’ve been on a great run and we want to finish with a top performance against the league champions.
“We know it’s a tough test but we all have huge belief in our group of players and I know our fans do too given the numbers that follow us away from the Showgrounds each fortnight.
“When you look at our squad, we’ve got some of the most exciting young talents in the league who are getting better and better with each game.
“I know the players are relishing the challenge this weekend. It’s a big game for us and they all want to be involved in these big games.”
Striker Cian Kavanagh looks likely to miss this game through injury, while midfielder Matty Wolfe will undergo a late fitness test.
A huge travelling support is expected for Saturday’s game, which kicks off at 4.30pm, with at least three supporters buses making the journey from Sligo to Tallaght.
