Last year, Nobody Wants This was the runaway romcom success that none of us saw coming. Funnily enough, it turned out that everybody wanted this, and thankfully, the second season is almost upon us. With Adam Brody and Kristen Bell in leading rolls, the Netflix series follows Noah and Joanne as they navigate a relationship that spans a religious divide.

Nobody Wants This is the kind of show that has you kicking your feet with delight as you watch. Based in Los Angeles, the protagonist, Joanne, hosts a dating podcast with her sister but their lives start to shift when she meets the charming local rabbi, Noah. The pair starts a sweet romance (which includes one of the best on-screen kisses of the year) that starts out innocently enough but quickly gets complicated once families get involved.

Noah is fresh out of a relationship, and as his role as rabbi would imply, he is extremely involved in his local community and church. Meanwhile, Joanne didn’t grow up with a religious background and is described as an agnostic character. Naturally, when you add some strong-willed family members into the mix, plus two siblings who love nothing more than stirring the pot, drama is inevitable. And therein lays half of the show’s appeal. (The other half being the sweet love story, obviously.)

When season one finished, we were left with a sense of cautious optimism, as Noah and Joanne decided to give their relationship a real shot shortly after it became a dumpster fire. Based on the trailer for the second season, the pair have been in a glorious honeymoon period since, but are now being forced to navigate their shared lives together as they transition out of this early love stage, and find their way to a more stable relationship. Only time will tell whether they’re successful.
