Aiden Markram was batting on 32 runs from 61 balls when he decided to play a big shot down the ground off Sajid Khan’s bowling on Tuesday (October 21). The right-handed batter failed to connect with the ball properly and was caught by Saud Shakeel near the boundary ropes on the fourth ball of the 21st over. After Sajid picked up his first and South Africa’s second wicket of the first innings, former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam came up with an epic celebration.
In a video going viral on the internet, Babar can be seen tapping his fingers on Sajid’s head in excitement, which many fans on social media find hilarious.
Here’s a look:
During his stay at the crease on Tuesday, after South Africa bowled Pakistan out for 333 in their first innings, Markram scored 4 fours and 1 six.
He added 22 runs for the first wicket with Ryan Rickelton (14 runs from 26 balls) and 32 runs for the second wicket with Tristan Stubbs (68 not out from 184 balls).
Maharaj takes 7
Veteran debutant spinner Asif Afridi took two crucial wickets to restrict South Africa to 185-4 at stumps on Day 2 and leave the second Test in the balance on Tuesday.
Tristan Stubbs was unbeaten on 68 at the close on day two having added 113 runs for the third wicket with Tony de Zorzi. De Zorzi scored a polished 55 as the duo lifted the visitors from 54-2 on a spin-friendly Rawalpindi stadium pitch.
When it looked the pair would stabilise the innings the 38-year-old Asif trapped De Zorzi leg-before and earned his first wicket on review. In his next over he had Dewald Brevis caught in the slips for nought. Kyle Verreynne was the other unbeaten batsman, on 10.
The highlight of the second day was some superb bowling by the left-armer Keshav Maharaj.
Maharaj, who missed the first Test defeat with injury, exploited the dry conditions to maximum effect for his 12th five-wicket Test haul.
Pakistan resumed on 259-5 and reached 316 untroubled when the Maharaj show began.
