There have been rumblings that the Ravens could get Lamar Jackson back for Week 8 in a must-win game against the Chicago Bears. Though that is far from guaranteed, the team has instead chosen to bring in a former star defensive end.
Per multiple reports, the Ravens are signing former Cowboys defensive end Carl Lawson. Lawson came in for a workout and has now signed a new deal with Baltimore.

Lawson most recently played with the Cowboys in the 2024 season, where he played mostly on the practice squad. He was activated to the roster in October of 2024. He played in 15 games, and started three.

Lawson had one forced fumble and five sacks through the 15 games he appeared in during the 2024 season, proving that he still has plenty of gas in the tank.
In total, Lawson has 32 sacks through seven seasons in the league. He posted a career-high 8.5 sacks during his rookie season in 2017 as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Lawson spent the first four seasons of his career with the Bengals, where he brought in 20 sacks and two forced fumbles. Unfortunately, he would suffer a torn Achilles tendon in the 2021 season, knocking him out for the whole year.
Following the season-ending injury, Lawson played two seasons with the New York Jets and the most recent with the Cowboys. Despite injuries that have derailed his season a bit, the defensive end is still a viable pass rusher who can greatly benefit the Ravens’ roster.
Baltimore needs more pass rush help, as the team is currently posting a fifth-worst 246.7 passing yards per game to their opponents. Lawson can surely help on that front.
Should Jackson return in Week 8, and Lawson is ready to suit up, the Ravens will have two star players to add to their roster in hopes of getting a much-needed win against the surging Bears.
