As officially announced, EuroLeague games are set to return to Israel starting in December.
The situation will be monitored until then, and if everything goes as expected, Maccabi and Hapoel Tel Aviv will be able to host EuroLeague home games in Tel Aviv.
Valencia‘s head coach Pedro Martinez commented on the situation in a media session ahead of EuroLeague Round 6 matches.
“We like that Hapoel and Maccabi can play their games at home and that we don’t have to play behind closed doors when we play against them. We like this, but outside the sport aspect, we aren’t very calm. When you see the news… we think that the situation is not normalized as we would like,” Martinez said.
He questioned why EuroLeague chose December as the time for Israeli clubs to return home.
“Why on November 25 is it not safe to play in Israel and on December 5 it will be? Those who have taken the decision will not have to travel there, and I would like to know why ten days later it will be safe. We are not comfortable with the situation.”
Ultimately, he concluded on the subject:
“This is sports, we don’t want to be part of the problem, we would like the situation to be normal, but if you ask me: I’m just the head coach of Valencia Basket and we are not very calm,” Pedro Martinez said.
