Obsidian Showed Up At Fallout Day Just To Say Play New Vegas

Fallout fans haven’t had all that much to cheer about in recent years, at least when it comes to the gaming side of the franchise. Sure, there’s a pretty good show being made and Fallout 76 is still getting regular updates, but with The Elder Scrolls 6 now in development for lord knows how long, we might not get a brand-new Fallout game for at least half a decade.
Still, Bethesda has the classics to fall back on. With the anniversary of Fallout: New Vegas having been and gone, many had hoped that this year’s big Fallout Day broadcast would bring with it that remaster that we’re all craving, even despite Bethesda making it clear there was going to be nothing of the sort at the show. There was part of me hoping that Bethesda was fibbing too, and for a second, it seemed as though they might have been.
Fallout Day Included A Call From Obsidian To Play New Vegas
Around halfway through the show, Obsidian managed to raise the blood pressure of every New Vegas fan on the planet by stopping by for an announcement regarding the game’s 15th anniversary. Obsidian studio head Feargus Urquhart was there, as was studio design director and Fallout: New Vegas director Josh Sawyer, and creative director John Gonzalez, all of whom thanked fans for their support over the years and wished everyone a happy Fallout day.
However, despite all of these Obsidian bigwigs showing up as part of the show, they had nothing to announce or show off as part of the game’s 15th anniversary, with only Urquhart telling people to “go play Fallout: New Vegas.” He’s absolutely correct, and you should play it if you haven’t already, but a dagger was plunged directly into the hearts of fans by seeing the likes of Sawyer show up and not get that remaster announcement they’ve been begging for.
Bethesda attempted to dull the pain by announcing a limited-edition anniversary bundle for the game, which included some patches, a pin, some cards, and a big statue of Vector, but the damage had already been done. We won’t be getting a Fallout: New Vegas remaster this year, and I’m starting to lose hope that we ever will. At least we always have the original to go back to.
