It will be a cool, cloudy and damp start this morning for those hoping to get to the ballot box early, with scattered showers drifting across the country.

Sunny spells will break through later this morning however, as a fresh northerly breeze clears away any remaining showers.

This afternoon will be cloudy, with showers mainly impacting the north-western counties, and temperatures ranging between 9 and 12 degrees.

A scattering of showers will feed down across the country through the night but clear and dry spells will develop in the south and east overnight. Lowest temperatures are expected to be between 5 and 8 degrees.

Election results day will begin with short-lived sunny spells, but more cloud will bubble up across northern areas, and showers will continue to feed south across the country, with some dry patches.

The Bank Holiday weekend will remain unsettled, with a mixture of cloud, showers and sunny spells expected for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Saturday night will be particularly cool with temperatures reaching lows of 1 to 4 degrees, while Sunday night will be milder with lowest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees.

Dublin City Marathon participants can expect a morning of patchy rain, with more widespread showers by the afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to range between 9 and 11 degrees.

Bank Holiday Monday will bring more of the same, with sunny spells and isolated showers, with rain spreading in from the west.

Current indications regarding Tuesdays weather would suggest that the unsettled conditions are to remain, with temperatures likely to stay slightly below average, also.
