Pedestrian struck by car at downtown Sacramento intersection dies at hospital

A female pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle early Monday on North 16th Street in Sacramento died at a hospital, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
The collision occurred at about 5:35 a.m. in the 200 block of North 16th Street, near North C Street. Police said the crash involved at least one vehicle and forced officers to close nearby intersections during the morning commute.
As of 7 a.m., the intersection remained shut down. Officers had blocked traffic at North B Street and Ahern Street and were diverting vehicles along C Street.
Investigators with the Sacramento Police Department’s Major Collision Investigation Unit responded to the scene. Authorities asked motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the pedestrian’s name once next of kin have been notified.
