Nuggets’ Aaron Gordon sets franchise record in wild career night

Aaron Gordon did what?

For those who didn’t stay up late for the Denver Nuggets’ overtime season opener against the Golden State Warriors, that’s a totally fair reaction.

Gordon had the absolute game of his life.

The bummer, of course, is that the Warriors won anyway. That Stephen Curry guy is pretty good, too, and he did enough to pull it out, forcing OT on a deep 3-pointer and then getting it across the line in the extra period.

But man, Gordon had a special night.

The final stats for Gordon looked like this:

  • 50 points
  • 8 rebounds
  • 17-21 FG
  • 10-11 3FG

The 50 points are a career-high for Gordon

The 10-for-11 from 3-point range is also a career-high for Gordon.

And the 50 points are the most ever scored in the first game of a Nuggets season for Denver.

The Warriors had already played once, and won once, which may or may not have been a helpful thing. But now Golden State is 2-0.

Denver will have to find a way to rebound from a loss to open their campaign.

If you had told the Nuggets that Gordon would score 50 and make 10-of-11 3s, they probably wouldn’t have believed you, but if they did, they’d have figured they would win.

Sadly, that wasn’t meant to be.

Instead, Denver has to recognize that it’s a long season and that there’s a lot of time to rack up the wins. If Gordon plays like this again, the Nuggets should have a great chance of bouncing back.
