Akin Odimayo signs for Newport County

Newport County is pleased to confirm the signing of defender Akin Odimayo on a short-term deal.

The 25-year-old English centre-back, brings a wealth of experience to Rodney Parade after his spells with Reading’s academy, Swindon Town and Northampton Town.

Odimayo began his career in the Reading youth set-up, turning professional in July 2018 and making his senior bow in an EFL Cup. He later moved on to Swindon Town in August 2020, adding over 60 league appearances, before signing for Northampton Town in July 2022 where he played close to 90 times over three seasons.

Speaking after completing his move, Akin said “I’m delighted to be here. Everyone has been really welcoming, the boys have been great helping me to settle in and the coaching staff have been brilliant. I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve been training with the PFA over the last few months and they have been vital in supporting me and ensuring that I’m in the best condition possible and I feel ready to go. I’m buzzing to get going and helping the club progress.”

Odimayo will be available to be selected for our squad this Saturday against Harrogate Town in Sky Bet League Two.
