World Cup winner just saw former Arsenal star have his ‘worst game’ since leaving

Seven players said goodbye to Arsenal permanently in the summer, and one has just come under fire.

Four of the seven players who left Arsenal in the summer of 2025 departed at the expiry of their contracts.

First team regulars Kieran Tierney and Jorginho were among those to bid farewell, with the latter saying goodbye to the Premier League after making 196 appearances.

Jorginho was happy to leave Arsenal to sign for Flamengo, moving to Brazil, his birth country, for the first time in his career.

Jorginho just had his worst game for Flamengo after leaving Arsenal

Replacing Jorginho was never going to be easy, as few players have the experience of playing at the highest level like the Italy international.

Mikel Arteta hasn’t looked back since replacing the 33-year-old, despite the fact that Jorginho has become an instant hit at Flamengo.

That being said, the midfielder’s standards have slipped this week, as after Flamengo’s win over Racing Club in the CONMEBOL Libertadores, the former Gunner was slammed in the media.

2002 World Cup winner Denilson was one to review Jorginho’s performance, dubbing the veteran’s display ‘bad’.

“It’s a tough game, Flamengo is making a lot of misplaced passes, but man, am I the only one who thinks Jorginho’s game is bad?” Denilson asked, as transcribed by Bolavip.

“He’s missing some balls he doesn’t usually miss. Is he feeling the strain against Palmeiras? I think it’s one of his worst games, if not his worst game for Flamengo.”

Still, the Italian managed to complete 91% of his passes and only miscontrolled one out of 84 of his touches on the ball, as per Sofascore, but that only reinforces his incredibly high standards.

Jorginho’s struggles are nothing compared to Kieran Tierney’s

Jorginho merely had a bad game, but other than that, the midfielder has thrived in Rio de Janeiro.

The same can’t, however, be said for the player he left alongside in the summer, as Tierney has failed to impress at Celtic.

Celtic fans can’t believe how poor Tierney has been, with the defender’s decline sadly noticed in the Scottish Premiership.

It’s been contrasting starts to the 2025/26 season for the two players who left Arsenal permanently in the summer, but that doesn’t mean Jorginho is exempt from criticism.
