Lakers’ Luka Doncic trade somehow just got even better

The Los Angeles Lakers made a stunning blockbuster trade for Luka Doncic in February, and the deal just keeps getting better. Doncic is in the best shape of his life and looks completely unstoppable after two games. The Lakers acquired arguably the best player in the world, and Anthony Davis looks to have already taken a step backward in Dallas.
Luka had 43 points and missed a triple-double by just one assist in the season opener. He remained unstoppable against the Timberwolves on Friday night. Doncic had a 49-point double-double as LA got a bit of revenge on Minnesota from the playoffs for their first win of the season. The Don made some Lakers history and continues to build his MVP case. The 26-year-old is on a new level in his first full year with Los Angeles.
On the other side, the Mavs are 0-2 after a nightmare loss to the rebuilding Wizards. They do not have a healthy point guard as Kyrie Irving recovers from a torn ACL. AD made multiple head-scratching plays late in the game and had Dallas fans losing their minds. Things just keep looking better for the purple and gold.
Luka Doncic trade looks even better for Lakers as Anthony Davis struggles
AD had 27 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks against the Wizards on Friday night. He was coming off a rough performance in the opener, where Davis and the Mavs were dominated by Victor Wembanyama. AD’s numbers in game two look strong, but his play tells a different story. He had five turnovers and hurt the Mavericks when they needed him most.

Davis looks to have taken a step backward on defense, which is the sole reason Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison said he made the trade. Dallas is struggling on both ends of the floor and has started the year with back-to-back losses from lottery teams from a year ago.
The Lakers are absolutely laughing as Luka is just entering his prime. The 26-year-old has carved up two playoff teams in the first two games. He is more active on defense and looks outstanding in LA.
Fans know he is one of the best players in the world and instantly makes his team a serious threat. Doncic led Dallas to the NBA Finals in 2024 and made the conference finals in 2022. The Mavs look like they will be back in the lottery and are questioning what AD’s future looks like after two games. The Lakers are building around number 77 and figure to be an annual threat.
Purple and gold supporters didn’t think this trade could get any better. The NBA world was shocked at the seemingly small price the Lakers paid to acquire Luka. With AD looking to have lost a step at 32 years old, this deal suddenly looks so much worse for Dallas. Los Angeles stole Luka Doncic and left the Mavericks in shambles.
Los Angeles Lakers fans can only laugh as Luka Doncic looks like a perennial MVP candidate and is locked in like never before. This trade was seemingly impossible and somehow keeps getting better. It is truly the gift that keeps on giving for the Lakers.
