Joshua Zirkzee will ask to leave Manchester United in the next transfer window. And West Ham are leading the chase to offer the Dutch international an escape from his Old Trafford nightmare.
Zirkzee has endured a tough spell at United since joining them from Bologna in a £36m deal, when Erik ten Hag was still in charge. The forward has failed to make an impact – and went on to become a figure of fun amongst United fans due to his lack of goals.
The 24-year-old scored just seven goals in 49 appearances in all competitions last season. He has made just four appearances this time round, and his last league goal for United came 10 months ago in December.

United boss Ruben Amorim has decided Zirkzee will not be part of his long term plans. While Zirkzee’s situation has been made worse by the summer signings of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.
Zirkzee has fallen down the pecking order, and knows he has to leave United in a bid to revive his flagging career. It’s understood United bosses will listen to offers for Zirkzee in the January transfer window.
While another option is for Zirkzee to join another club on-loan for the rest of the season, with a view to making the move permanent. Zirkzee is concerned his lack of first team action will ruin his hopes of going to the World Cup with the Netherlands.
Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman has told Zirkzee he has to be starting more games if he wants to be considered, should the team qualify for next summer’s tournament in North America.
Zirkzee would prefer to remain in the Premier League, but is willing to return to a European club if it means leaving United.
