Azerbaijani mountaineer Elmira Aslanova has successfully reached the summit of Puncak Jaya (Carstensz Pyramid, 4,884 meters), in Indonesia, the highest peak in Oceania.
The ascent began early on the morning of October 21 and took nearly seven hours to complete, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Located in Indonesia’s Papua province, Puncak Jaya is renowned for its steep limestone cliffs and technically demanding terrain. The mountain is one of the most challenging peaks among the Seven Summits, with access possible only by helicopter since the traditional trekking route remains closed.
Climbers face tropical weather conditions, including frequent rainfall and slippery rock surfaces, making the climb particularly difficult.
