Callum McGregor isn’t shying away from the negativity that’s surrounded Celtic in recent weeks.

But he knows more than most how to banish it and that’s by wining games, starting with Sunday’s clash with Premiership pacesetters Hearts.

Last weekend’s shock defeat at Dundee means the champions travel to Tynecastle knowing defeat will see them slip eight points behind Derek McInnes’s side.

The Jambos have many asking whether this is the year Scotland will see a genuine title challenge form outside of Glasgow and the Gorgie boys have been backed to make the best fist of it yet.

But after Thursday night’s Europa League win over Sturm Graz, McGregor reminded the doubters that this Celtic squad have been hardwired to win when it matters over the years.

And the skipper isn’t getting caught in the Hearts hype.

“The reality is that negativity comes when you’re not winning games of football,” he told Sky Sports.

“So the best way to affect that is to win games of football on a regular basis.

“We had a really good night last night. It was a good performances and we were much more like ourselves.

“Now we have to use that as the catalyst to move forward and take it into Sunday’s game.

“Obviously it will be a tough game but we go there with confidence that we can win the game.

“Then the whole thing starts to move really, really quickly with a big few weeks ahead.

“The players are okay, the players are fine. We know our job and we’ve been here a long, long time. We know how to win games.

“So everybody is calm and we just focus on performance and winning matches. Everything else will come along with that.”
