Queensland braces for thunderstorms as 20,000 still without power in Brisbane

Most of Queensland is bracing for thunderstorms this afternoon, but Brisbane should be spared any further onslaught.
More than 20,000 customers remain without power in Brisbane, and a further 5000 across the rest of the south-east region, despite Energex crews working around the clock to restore power.

There is no storm activity forecast for Brisbane this afternoon, although the Bureau of Meteorology said the city may see some showers.
Thunderstorms are likely, however, across the rest of the state, except the far south and Cape York Peninsula.
The most severe storms are likely to be in the central and south-east coasts between the Sunshine Coast and Rockhampton.
The Bureau of Meteoroloy will release warnings if severe storms develop.
Further storms are anticipated for tomorrow, as well as an increase in rainfall across the same region.

Much of the state is under a total fire ban today with extreme fire danger forecast for the south-east coast.
The Queensland Fire Department issued an Advice warning this afternoon for a blaze burning near Twin View Road at Caboolture.
The fire is burning between McDougall Road and Solider Road and nearby roads are expected to be impacted.

A heatwave warning was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for central, north and north-west Queensland for Sunday to Wednesday.
Maximum temperatures could nudge the mid-40s in some regions, including the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Central West, North West and Gulf Country districts.
