Who is Katie Boulter? Alex Eala’s first opponent in the Hong Kong Open

Alexandra “Alex” Eala will begin her singles campaign in the Hong Kong Open on Tuesday, marking her final push of the WTA season.
The world No. 51 Eala will face Katie Boulter of Great Britain, ranked No. 79, in the Round of 32 on Tuesday at 7:40 p.m.
Boulter, 29, achieved a career-high ranking of No. 23 in November 2024 and has three WTA titles to her name: the Nottingham Open (2023, 2024) and the San Diego Open (2024).
She has also been a regular in the Grand Slam circuit since 2019, reaching the Round of 32 twice at Wimbledon in 2022 and 2023.
Before arriving in Hong Kong, Boulter reached the Round of 32 at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.
Eala, meanwhile, is looking to bounce back after back-to-back first-round exits at the Guangzhou Open and Japan Open.
She also bowed out early in doubles play at the Hong Kong Open, falling with Hao-Ching Chan to Kamilla Rakhimova and Aliaksandra Sasnovich, 6–3, 1–6, 7–10.
This tournament also caps off Eala’s historic 2025 season, which saw her break into the world’s top 100, defeat Grand Slam champions, and make Philippine tennis history by becoming the first Filipino to win a Grand Slam main-draw match at the US Open, followed by her first WTA 125 title in Guadalajara.
