Government maintains suspension of work in provinces on red alert for this Saturday

Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader ordered to maintain a closure of work for this Saturday in the 12 provinces that remain on red alert due to the passage of storm Melissa, which continues to advance at only 4 kilometers per hour and could become a hurricane in the coming days.
The preventive measures that the Government has implemented, with the aim of preserving lives and maintaining the safety of the population, will be reviewed at 9 a.m. this Saturday in a follow-up meeting from the COE, which will be headed by its director, retired general Juan Manuel Méndez, and if necessary, alert levels would be issued or decreased.

“We are facing one of the most erratic storms, according to experts and analysts, and one that has been affecting the national territory for the longest time,” reiterated President Abinader.
“In a large part of the national territory it continues to rain,” added the president, recalling that the government and all its institutions are working to protect human lives, property and bring protection to areas of danger, in order to return to normal as soon as possible.
It is currently projected that the rains will continue this Saturday in Greater Santo Domingo, heading south/southwest in the coming days, and could extend until the beginning of next week.
Given the constant rainfall, the Government calls on the population to follow meteorological updates through the media and to comply with the instructions of the authorities, who remain in permanent session, monitoring the evolution of the storm.
