Ottawa man with 5 fake identities charged for alleged immigration fraud

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) have charged a man from the nation’s capital following an investigation into immigration fraud.

OPS said the investigation began back in 2024 when it looked into “several incidents” that took place between January and July of that year.

As a result, police have charged 35-year-old Vinay Pal Singh Brar of Ottawa.

Officials say Brar allegedly positioned himself as an immigration consultant and defrauded multiple people.

Brar faces the following charges:

  • Fraud ver $5000 x2
  • Possess stolen property over $5,000 x2
  • Assault
  • Assault by choking
  • Uttering threats

Police believe there could be more victims living all across Canada.

The accused was known to use the following aliases:

  • Gagandeep Singh 
  • Warisdeep Singh
  • Waris Singh 
  • Waris Deep Sehmi 
  • Harsh Harsh

Police are taking this opportunity to remind people to be cautious when working with anyone offering immigration services. Before accepting services from anyone, it’s recommended to ensure the person or company is federally or provincially licensed.
