Sharks Injury Update: Eklund Getting Closer As Reaves Returns; Tough Break For Misa

Ryan Reaves will return to the San Jose Sharks lineup against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday.
The winger confirmed to reporters that he suffered a lower-body injury attempting to score on a breakaway against the New Jersey Devils on Oct. 30.
“Typical of me getting hurt on a breakaway,” Reaves said. “I think I got caught up in [Allen’s] pad trying to get the rebound, and my momentum just flipped me around. Just hammered my leg against ice.”
Reaves was placed on injured reserve but will be activated for Friday’s game. San Jose Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky alluded to William Eklund being placed on IR in a corresponding move.

Eklund, who skated before the official portion of the Sharks’ morning skate, will miss his third consecutive game.
“I think he’s trending in the right direction,” Warsofsky said about Eklund. “Another skate, and I’ll find out how the skate went, but he didn’t get off early.”
The Sharks’ head coach also did not officially rule Eklund out of the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Florida Panthers.
With two heavy teams coming into SAP Center this weekend, Reaves and the Sharks were both hopeful that he could return for them.
“I was definitely doing everything I could to come back for this weekend. A couple of heavy teams that like to lay the body and like to get in your face,” Reaves said. “Those are the games I like to be in for sure. I was doing everything I can to make sure the injury healed up.”
Misa gets the week-to-week tag
The San Jose Sharks also placed top prospect Michael Misa on IR on Thursday for a lower-body injury.
Following their return from Seattle, coach Warsofsky said Misa was still being evaluated on Thursday. On Friday, that changed.
“He’s going to be week-to-week,” Warsofsky said. “It’s not going to be his first time he’s injured in his NHL career. I know he’s disappointed, especially [getting hurt at a] morning skate, too. It’s not in the game, which is frustrating, since he was slated to play. But what doesn’t hurt you will make you stronger.”
Warsofsky told reporters that Misa got hurt during a puck battle at the morning skate. The injury occurred towards the end of the session while the Sharks worked on their power play.
“There are still ways we can develop players. Obviously, you’re not getting the reps. But he’s going to watch [Mark Scheifele and Jonathan Toews tonight]. Two of the best in the league,” Warsofsky said about Misa potentially having his development hindered. “He’ll continue to watch [Macklin Celebrini and Alexander Wennberg]. There’s video that we show. There’s meetings that we have. He’s not just out on an island doing his own little thing. He’s got rehab that he’s allowed to do. There’s still a lot of development we can do with him, even though he’s not on the ice.”
Warsofsky said the San Jose Sharks are pretty comfortable that Misa’s week-to-week timeline will be accurate.
