Cameroon coach confident despite internal rift with Eto’o

Brys optimistic despite Eto’o clash
Cameroon national team head coach Marc Brys has expressed confidence in his team’s chances of advancing to the inter-confederation playoffs next year despite an internal rift with Cameroon Football Federation President Samuel Eto’o.
The pair has been making headlines since the Belgian’s appointment in April 2024, with insiders suggesting Brys is a Government-appointed coach, while the former FC Barcelona striker preferred a different candidate.
Recently, Brys refused to travel to Cameroon’s capital, Yaounde, for a press conference to name his final squad for the African playoffs, which saw a delay in the squad announcement.
Despite the negativity surrounding their campaign, the 63-year-old tactician believes his side has what it takes to oust DR Congo on Thursday, 13 November, and subsequently either Nigeria or Gabon in the final on Sunday.
“The group is mature and competent enough to handle the situation. It is not the first time for many, and I am 100% sure that we will be ready if the mentality is good and if the passion and enthusiasm are present from the beginning,” said Brys as quoted by SuperSport.
“I am a positive person, so I do not deal with the negative like for example Fecafoot.
Brys is reportedly growing frustrated over the situation with FECAFOOT, with reports emanating from Cameroon suggesting his future beyond the playoffs is uncertain ahead of the AFCON next month.
