Glyndebourne announces apprenticeship programme

Providing an alternative to the traditional university education, Glyndebourne is to start a new apprenticeship programme with four new opportunities. The roles are aligned with the needs of the house – and the wider industry – in terms of recruitment: Technical Theatre; Wigs, Hair, Makeup and Prosthetics Technician; Assistant Production Manager; and Audio Visual Technician.
This structure of learning aims to create a more inclusive and accessible pathway into the industry as the apprenticeships will be paid fixed-term contracts for up to 24 months, providing a well-rounded and accredited education while earning a salary.
Hands-on practical experience within Glyndebourne’s production environment will be matched with structured training from a third-party provider, with each apprenticeship culminating in a final assessment, ensuring every graduate meets professional industry standards. The training will be delivered in partnership with Chichester College Group who support apprentices in many of the country’s leading theatres, including the Royal Shakespeare Company.
The initiative will be overseen by the recently appointed Technical & Production Director, Sam Garner-Gibbons, who has had over a decade of experience in supporting apprenticeships within the arts sector. Garner-Gibbons says: ‘Our aim is to open the doors to a broader range of talented individuals who might not otherwise have a pathway into our industry. Apprenticeships allow people to learn directly from experienced professionals while contributing to real productions, which is an incredibly powerful way to build both skill and confidence. Glyndebourne has always been a place of innovation and excellence, and this programme will ensure we continue to nurture and invest in the next generation of theatre makers both for us and for the wider sector.’
The closing date for applications is November 23, 2025. Applications for Audio Visual Assistant will not open until 2026. Glyndebourne.com
