WEST LAFAYETTE — Despite a one-week break from games, Purdue basketball’s Daniel Jacobsen picked up Friday where he left off in the Bahamas.
In the process, the 7-foot-4 center broke a Boilermaker record which had stood for over 50 years.

After a perfect shooting performance in a 109-62 victory over Eastern Illinois, Jacobsen has not missed a shot in almost two weeks. His 8-for-8 performance on a 24-point night ran his streak of consecutive field goals to 19.
That broke the record of 15 set by George Faerber from March 9-21, 1971. Jacobsen can extend his record when the Boilermakers open Big Ten play at Rutgers on Tuesday.
Jacobsen’s last miss came Nov. 16, on his first attempt against Akron. He made his last four attempts in that game, including his first 3-pointer. Then he went 3 for 3 in six foul-plagued minutes against Memphis and 4 for 4, with another 3-pointer, against then-No. 15 Texas Tech.
“I just want to play as hard as I can — just take advantage of every opportunity,” Jacobsen said.

The streak came during the best performance of Jacobsen’s career. In addition to the career-high 24 points, he grabbed nine rebounds (four on offense) and blocked six shots. All of that production came in 18 minutes.
He also made 8 of 9 free throws.
