What you should know as Met Office issues yellow weather warning in West Midlands
- Travel disruption: The Met Office has issued a significant yellow weather warning for heavy rain across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands region. Forecasters predict that the downpours may cause considerable travel disruption and a risk of flooding this weekend.
- Warning time period: The alert is in effect for an extensive 18-hour period, covering most of the day on Saturday. It begins at 6 am and is scheduled to remain in place until 11:59 pm on Saturday, November 29.
- Starting date: The weather on Saturday is anticipated to be generally unsettled with numerous outbreaks of rain throughout the region. The rainfall is expected to be heavy and persistent at various times, potentially making travel difficult.

- Temperatures: Temperatures during the main warning period on Saturday are forecast to be quite cool, with a maximum temperature of 8°C for the Birmingham area. The weather will become windy for some, particularly in the southern parts of the warning zone.
- Friday forecast: The forecast for the preceding day, Friday, called for a bright start before skies turned cloudier in the afternoon. A band of heavy showers was expected to push eastwards across the region, bringing with it a risk of hail.
- Friday evening: Friday’s evening transition into night was predicted to start drier with clear skies for a time across the West Midlands. However, the conditions were then set to become more unsettled overnight, ushering in the heavy rain for Saturday.
- Overnight: The overnight conditions leading into Saturday were also expected to include the arrival of the more severe weather system. This meant a combination of heavy rain and increasingly stronger winds would affect the West Midlands.
- Sunday forecast: The forecast also provided an outlook for the day immediately following the main warning, which is Sunday. It is expected to be a chillier day but generally brighter and drier, though an early frost is likely.
- Next week: Looking into the start of the next week, conditions are predicted to take another turn for the worse on Monday. That day is set to become wet and windy again, following the brief respite seen on Sunday.
- Changeable weather: The overall weather pattern for the outlook period, extending through to Tuesday, remains changeable. Tuesday is forecast to feature a mix of sunshine and showers, with temperatures generally hovering around the seasonal average.
