Look who’s back – well, sort of.
Week 8 of the NFL season winds down with a reunion as a familiar face greets his opponent in an unfamiliar place. Acrisure Stadium, which history remembers as Heinz Field, plays host to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers under the bright lights of “Sunday Night Football.”
Under normal circumstances, these two storied franchises would be enough for the prime time marquee. It just so happens that this meeting comes with some added intrigue.
Aaron Rodgers is set to face off against the Packers for the first time since their parting in 2023. The well-publicized breakup was anything but conventional, as Rodgers used his famed “darkness retreat” to determine his future.
The Packers were ready to move on, handing the keys to Jordan Love, and Rodgers was also ready for a change. Following in the footsteps of Brett Favre, Rodgers eventually landed with the New York Jets in an era that was far from successful for both sides. Following another bitter breakup, the quarterback was released by the Jets and later signed with the Steelers in free agency.
Now in what figures to be the four-time NFL MVP’s final season, Rodgers has the chance to take on his former team and become just the fifth quarterback in league history to beat all 32 teams.
