The Premier League has no official rules on whether any of its players can feature in Baller League UK.
The second series of the six-a-side competition got under way on Monday and featured a masked footballer, alleged to be an active Premier League player.
The mystery man, who wore number 14 and was fully in disguise from head-to-toe, came on for NDL FC – the side managed by social media star Niko Omilana.
The Celebrity Traitors star said in a social media video: “I can’t tell you who it is, they will get in a lot of trouble.”
The unknown footballer was brought on to take one free-kick and then immediately substituted.
While the Premier League does not have jurisdiction over whether players can or cannot play in the exhibition competition, it is up to the discretion of clubs as to whether their players are allowed to feature.
Baller League, whose managers include former England strikers Ian Wright and Alan Shearer, Arsenal and England forward Chloe Kelly, and actor Idris Elba, boasts a range of former Premier League and international players in its squads.
Former England and Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott is involved alongside ex-Republic of Ireland midfielder Stephen Ireland. Countryman Ciaran Clark is playing in his second season along with Michael Hector, who won 45 caps for Jamaica.
A number of current non-league players have been drafted in for the competition, which pays players between £300 to £800 per game.
The competition is also set to launch in the United States, where 2006 Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldinho and former Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt have been confirmed among the managers.
