Saturday Night’s Main Event tonight, live coverage of SNME

Cody Rhodes talks about Dusty Rhodes legacy, influence on his WWE career on ‘Stephanie’s Places’

WWE star Cody Rhodes is featured on ESPN’s “Stephanie’s Places”.

It’s Saturday night, and are we in for some great main events!

WWE presents Saturday Night’s Main Event, a four-bout card and every match is for a championship.

We’ll take you from the opening bell to the final decision for tonight’s card.

Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre match grade

It was an average match. Nothing great and I didn’t like where he went through a table and made it back in. If Cody can do it, that’s no longer a killer move. Grade: 75 out of 100.

He had to cheat and use the belt, but Cody retains. McIntyre should be mad. He was hosed!

I thought for sure this would be the closer to send everyone home happy after a Cody win. But we are starting with the WWE championship match. WHOA OHH! Cody is coming out! As we mentioned earlier, Cody does not have a champion’s advantage. If he gets DQ’ed or counted out, he drops the title to Drew McIntyre. I’m not looking forward to this match because I don’t think there’s much of a chance for Cody to lose. I would love to be wrong. I love the 7 p.m. start time because I don’t want to miss the World Series. Apparently Drew and Cody don’t care because both slowly made their way to the ring. I bet if it was cricket McIntyre would move his butt.

Lillian Garcia is doing the ring announcing. McIntyre asked to be called “the real American Dream.” He could be in for some hard times, baby. Cody is announced next and the bell has sounded, we’re off for Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Cody misses a clothesline, but he rebounds and takes control, working over McIntyre with punches. McIntyre takes a walk and returns to the ring with both men in a standing position. McIntyre shoves Rhodes in the direction of the referee and then asks for a disqualifcation. I love Drew!

McIntyre is now going to work on Cody. He bite him, but the ref didn’t see it. Cody takes over and pushes the ref. That should be a DQ. WWE does protect Cody. If Drew did that, the match would be over and everyone would be singing Cody’s song. Instead, McIntyre has to win it on his own. McIntyre dumps Cody to the outside and tries to get the win, but Rhodes rushes back.

McIntyre continues to pound away on Cody, but he goes to the top rope and is cut off. And he hits a superplex from the top. Both men are down. I bet Randy Orton’s dad is smiling. After saying Peacock never freezes, it just did. I came back to see McIntyre reverse a Cody Cutter into a side slam. But he only got two.

McIntyre continues to try to get Rhodes counted out, and he just threw Cody through the ringside table. Cody is down and hurt. He gets back in at 9, which is trash. Typically that kills people. McIntyre looks mad, probably because he knows that’s not fair!

McIntyre goes for his kick, but Cody ducks. It’s taken McIntyre as long to get up from that than it did Cody plowing through a ringside table. Cody tried to climb the ropes, but his knee buckled. The ref is backing McIntyre off, which is unfair. Cody rebounds to hit a cover after the ref helped him.

Both men are down. Cody is Codying up. Cody goes for a Cross Rhodes, but McIntyre kicked him in the head. Both men plow into the referee. Cody went for a third cutter and ate a headbutt. McIntyre went for a beltshot, Cody ducked, both men went for a cross body and they both hit hard. Ref is still down. So the ref getting run into by two men has caused him to be down for about 20 minutes. Cody crashed through a table and was up at 9. Rhodes just DDT’ed McIntyre on the belt. The ref is up. Rhodes hits a Cross Rhodes and gets the three. So he chated again!

Today marks the first time in a while that WWE is live on Peacock, exclusively. I like Peacock much better than ESPN and it’s not just because it’s a heck of a lot cheaper. I actually canceled ESPN Unlimited because I have Comcast and I was sick of paying $30 for an app that crashed so much. Hopefully Comcast cuts a deal before I have to make a decision. That’ll be in four weeks for Survivor Series.

John Cena isn’t on tonight’s show, but he will be on the next Saturday Night’s Main Event in December when he takes part in his final match. He still has four appearances, and I think two matches. A rumor is Cena will take on Dirty Dom Mysterio in one of his final two matches. I’d love to see that. Dom deserves it. He’s been great in everything and he’ll be a perfect foil for a good guy John Cena. I don’t know if it’s in he plans, but if it is, I’d love it.

Michael Cole and Wade Barrett on the call

If you were hoping for Corey Graves, well I have some bad news. Wade Barrett is providing color tonight with Michael Cole. No sign of Jesse Ventura yet.

It was a bummer hearing Seth Rollins would be sidelined six months, but that’s what he said this week on the NFL Network. That being said, this could set up the most eagerly awaited return in a long time simply because what will Rollins do when he returns? He has good reason to hate CM Punk and Roman Reigns. They probably don’t care much for him, either. But he doesn’t have friends on the other side, either. When he comes back, what’s his first move? Does he go after his title? Does he go after Heyman and his boys? It’s impossible to predict, and that will make his return so captivating. I’d love to see him return for the Royal Rumble, but I think I’d rather him come out, announced, and see what he does. Rollins is arguably the best in the game, and WWE is always better with him, but the silver lining of the cloud that is his injury is it will set up a heck of a return.

It darn sure better. And I can’t wait to see how it plays out. It has to be team comprised of Paul Heyman guys against good guys. We know Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed will be two of those guys. It doesn’t take Scott Steiner to know that only makes up 40 percent of the squad. Drew McIntyre would be a great addition. So would Brock Lesner. Now you have to come up with one more guy, probably someone who will turn between when I write this and Survivor Series. I am thinking Jey Uso could be the guy. Then for the good guys? How about Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Jimmy Uso and you need two more. As much as I’d love it to be Solo Sikoa and Sami Zayn, it doesn’t look like it’ll be that. So let’s throw LA Knight in there, he makes sense. And how about John Cena? I know there are talks about him getting “Dirty” at Survivor Series, but if you’re having the biggest War Games of all time, let John have a crack at it. That’s my prediction. I would be shocked if it was right, and that’s why WWE is so fun right now.

Well, unless something crazy happens, which it could because anything can in the World Wrestling Entertainment (do they still say that?) we will have at least one. The vacant World Heavyweight Championship will go home with either Jey Uso or CM Punk. The other three matches are also championship bouts, and in one, the champion doesn’t have an advantage. In the WWE Championship match, Cody Rhodes will lose the title to Drew McIntyre even if the Scottish superstar wins by disqualifcation or countout. I still think McIntyre is a longshot. Jade Cargill is wrestling Tiffany Stratton for her title, while Dominick Mysterio defends his IC title against Penta and Rusev. I predict we have two new champions when the night is over. Let’s go with Cargill and Yeet!
