OUR ABSENT FRIENDS had fallen a long way in the weights and returned to form out of the blue to resume winning ways at Redcar in September, the time figure good for the grade and that form is working out.

He wasn’t seen to best effect racing on the flank at Haydock last time, but wasn’t beaten far, and he remains one to be interested in from this mark. Thunderstorm Katie, who is bidding for a hat-trick, and Fear And Fast head the dangers representing Jim Goldie.

EAGLE BAY made appeal on pedigree and he shaped with promise on his debut over seven furlongs at Catterick last month, only beaten two lengths but not at all knocked about in the closing stages.

He’s just the sort to take a big step forward for that initial experience and he’s taken to improve past the likes of Blakefell and Positive Thoughts, who have perhaps shown more but don’t have the same potential.

DOUBLE TIME has made a good start for Tim Vaughan and he scored with a bit to spare at Kempton last time, shaken up two furlongs out and soon moving clear.

That was his second win for the yard and is expected to defy a 5 lb rise in the weights, likely at the chief expense of top-weight Dwindling Funds, who bids for a remarkable seventh success of 2025. In-form pair Sailthisshipalone and Bint Al Karama also need factoring into this open handicap.

SAYIDAH NEW BAY is a lightly-raced maiden who showed promise in maidens, and duly improved on handicap debut when third over an extended 11 furlongs at Killarney last month.

She reacted well to a more positive ride than usual, shaping as though she’s well worth another try at a mile and a half, and she’s capable of winning races from this sort of mark. Fellow three-year-old filly Velvet Whisper is feared most ahead of Tee Aitch Aye.

EMERALD ARMY shaped as if back in good form at Catterick last week, attracting support and disadvantaged by having been forced to make his bid furthest from the near-side rail.

He is given a chance to confirm those impressions, having dipped to 2 lb below the mark she defied over seven furlongs at that course in July.

Jkr Cobbler has been in good form this autumn and should figure prominently, while last year’s winner, John L Sullivan, is handicapped to go well if perked up by a change of headgear.

U SURE DO impressed with the way he travelled when resuming winning ways at Catterick recently, keen enough but still seeing his race out strongly, and looks the way to go here despite being raised 4 lb by the assessor.

Hat-trick-seeking Mudamer rates the obvious threat, although Monsieur Kodi, Gweedore and Bellarchi all have winning form round here and must enter calculations.

SPOOKY WOOKY has shown improved form since sent handicapping upped in trip, and he caught the eye on his first start at two miles over this course and distance three weeks ago, doing well to get as close as he did to the much more prominently ridden pair that finished in front of him.

He’s clearly on a good mark and is one to remain positive about at this level. Newbury runner-up Aighear appeals as the one to chase home Simon West’s three-year-old, ahead of in-form duo Quercus Robur and Rory The Cat.
