Disney Is Campaigning a Surprising Marvel Movie for Best Picture

Disney is hoping that Marvel‘s Captain America: Brave New World could get some serious awards attention.

Marvel Studios’ Captain America 4, also known as Captain America: Brave New World, was released in United States theaters this past February. Directed by Julius Onah, the movie sees Anthony Mackie reprise his MCU role as Sam Wilson/Captain America, while Harrison Ford also stars as Thaddeus Ross/Red Hulk.

What Oscars is Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World campaigning for?

On Disney’s For Your Consideration page, the studio has announced that Captain America 4 is campaigning for Best Picture at the Oscars. If they were to win, the award would go to Kevin Feige and Nate Moore.

Additionally, Captain America 4 is also campaigning for the Academy Awards for Best Director (Onah), Best Actor (Mackie), Best Supporting Actor (Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Giancarlo Esposito, Tim Blake Nelson, and Ford), Best Supporting Actress (Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Liv Tyler), Best Film Editing (Matthew Schmidt and Madeleine Gavin), Best Makeup & Hairstyling (Nancy Martinez), Best Original Score (Laura Karpman), Best Production Design (Ramsey Avery and Rosemary Brandenburg), Best Sound (Christopher Boyes, Coya Elliot, Lora Hirschberg, and Willie Burton), and Best Visual Effects (Alessandro Ongaro, Dan Cox, Hanzhi Tang, and Dan Sudick).

The Oscar nominations will be announced on Thursday, January 22, 2026, with the ceremony then being held on March 15, 2026.

Captain America: Brave New World received mixed reviews from critics, as the movie currently holds a 46 percent Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences were kinder to the movie, as it has a 76 percent Popcornmeter score. The film grossed approximately $415.1 million globally. 

Ramirez plays Joaquin Torres/Falcon in the movie, while Lumbly plays Isaiah Bradley, Esposito plays Seth Voelker/Sidewinder, Nelson plays Samuel Sterns, Haas plays Ruth Bat-Seraph, Roquemore plays Leila Taylor, and Tyler plays Betty Ross.

Captain America 4 is now streaming on Disney+.
