Chris Dobey, Ricky Evans and Danny Noppert are all through to the knockout stages as they made it two wins from two in their respective groups at the 2025 Mr Vegas Grand Slam of Darts.
Their victories meant that James Wade, Jonny Clayton, Martin Lukeman and Lisa Ashton are the first players eliminated in Wolverhampton.
Wade’s exit was sealed with a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Gerwyn Price, who gave his hopes a huge boost in Group D.
However, it was Tour Card Holder Qualifier Evans who is the first through from Group D, as he backed up his victory over Price on Saturday with a narrow 5-4 win over Stefan Bellmont, which featured a showpiece 170 finish.
Bellmont now faces a straight shootout for qualification with three-time Grand Slam champion Price on Monday.
Dobey’s 5-1 victory over Damon Heta in the final game of Sunday’s afternoon session sealed his progression in Wolverhampton, and confirmed the exit of 2024 finalist Lukeman, who suffered a 5-4 defeat to Jurjen van der Velde earlier in the day.
Danny Noppert secured his place in Round Two with a narrow 5-4 win over Cam Crabtree, with Jonny Clayton knocked out in Group H following a 5-3 defeat to Lukas Wenig.
The performance of the afternoon came from Gian van Veen in Group F, as the new European Champion averaged 107 in a brilliant 5-3 win over Wessel Nijman.
Women’s World Matchplay winner Ashton saw her exit sealed as she fell to a 5-0 defeat to Josh Rock, who resurrected his challenge in Wolverhampton in clinical fashion.
The action continues on Sunday evening with the second group games in A, C, E and G.
