Stock Market Today: Dow, S&P 500 Rise; Nasdaq Falls; Nvidia, Tesla, CoreWeave, AMD, More Movers

Now even the S&P 500 is rising.
The market benchmark was back up 0.2% after struggling for much of the morning. The Nasdaq Composite cut its drop to 0.3%. The Dow rose 500 points, or 1.1%.
After a rally in AI stocks broadened out into the close on Monday, today a broad selection of stocks were overpowering declines among large technology stocks like Nvidia.
Exchange-traded funds focused on momentum, growth, and risk were among the worst performers. Value, dividend stocks, and low-volatility ETFs were beating the broader market.
At the sector level, only tech was down more than 0.1% with a 0.7% decline. Utilities and communication services, which both include stocks linked to the AI trade, were down slightly but gaining ground.
A broadening of the stock market’s rally is a positive sign heading into the end of the year. After all, it’d be better for market participants to see more stocks join in on the rally rather than have large stocks fall back in line with the pack.
