One of the Funniest Films of the Year Finally Arrives on Streaming

20 years in the making, a long-awaited Disney sequel has finally arrived on streaming. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, Freakier Friday is widely regarded as one of the funniest films to grace theater screens this year. Although many were doubtful that the movie would live up to expectations, especially after the egregiously long wait between installments, the follow-up to Freaky Friday proved to be a worthwhile endeavor.

Freakier Friday is now available to stream on Disney+ as of November 12. The family-friendly comedy has a 74% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences were especially satisfied with a 91% rating on the Popcornmeter. Freakier Friday features Curtis and Lohan reprising their roles as Tess Coleman and Anna Coleman, respectively. They are joined by Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Rosalind Chao, Chad Michael Murray, and Mark Harmon.

Freakier Friday follows the same mother-daughter duo audiences fell in love with in 2003, but with a pretty big twist. They aren’t switching bodies with each other this time around, as they have now become inhabited by the daughters of Lohan’s character Anna. This dilemma introduces a whole new dynamic, one that supports the film’s themes of love and family. Read the official synopsis:

In the film, Curtis and Lohan reprise their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman. The story picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.

‘Freakier Friday’ Stars Jamie Lee Curtis & Lindsay Lohan Talk About Off-Screen Relationship

Despite 20 years between films, the stars of Freaky Friday remained in touch until the making of the long-awaited sequel. In an exclusive clip, Jamie Lee Curtis revealed that since making the original 2003 film, she and Lohan kept up a healthy friendship that spanned several decades until the making of Freakier Friday.

“I love Lindsay Lohan. I have stayed in contact with Lindsey since we made Freaky Friday in 2003 when she was 15 years old. And the movie came out, and she was 16. We have stayed in verbal phone, and texting contact. She has a wicked bitmoji game. We have seen each other over these 22 years many, many times. She would come to Los Angeles, so we would see each other here, and I would go to New York and we would see each other there. She lives in Dubai, so it’s harder to see her, but she brought her baby to Los Angeles. And way before we had announced we were making this movie, she came to Los Angeles and brought little Luai [her son]. In fact, when she brought Luai over to my house, we took a picture, just the two of us. I posted it on Instagram, and that was the picture that really got the energy started. That was really what got the energy started, people loved seeing us.”

Lohan herself confirmed that Curtis is a “very important person” in her life, revealing that the long wait between Freaky Friday and its sequel did not make that relationship any less impactful.

“Jamie and I have remained in close contact over the past two decades. We have always remained close. She is a very important person in my life. I love her dearly. Working with her again felt like it was yesterday.”
