Shoppers are flocking to a major UK supermarket to buy half-price Christmas trees ready for the festive period. With December fast approaching, Tesco customers are buying trees branded “the most popular in Europe” for as little as £15.

Tesco today slashed the price of its Nordmann Fir trees in half in a bid to entice shoppers into some early Christmas prep. The ‘non-drop guarantee’ trees are popular because of their strong branches, making them easy to decorate to light up homes over the holiday.

While they can cost up to £60 from some sellers, Nordmann Fir Cut Christmas Trees and Tesco Finest Xmas Tree with lights are now both £20, down from Tesco’s price of £40, with a pot-grown Nordmann Fir cut from £30 to £15.

That means shoppers looking to cut costs at an expensive time of year can make some big savings – especially with nearly half of Brits putting up two or more trees this year.

Tesco Christmas Tree buyer Hugh Kenney-Herbert said: “We started stocking these non-drop Christmas trees a few years ago and they became so popular and sold out so quickly that we keep having to increase our order.

“In fact, the launch of the sale triggers an event we now call Christmas Tree Saturday – it’s the day when increasing numbers of shoppers now go out to buy their trees.

“Customers have told us that they love getting into the spirit of Christmas as early as possible and having a tree up in their living room helps create that seasonal magic.

“By the end of November last year nearly all our stock had gone – this year we’ve brought in nearly 50 per cent more as we know how popular they are.”

According to Forestry England, Nordmann Firs are the most popular Christmas trees in Europe because of their strong branches and even shape which ‘make them a joy to decorate’.

Tesco also today launched a ‘3 for 2’ toy sale, giving parents a chance to tick off some of those highly prized items on their kids’ letters to Santa.

Customers can mix and matching across top toy brands including Hot Wheels, Barbie, Paw Patrol, Minecraft, Early Learning Centre and Squishmallows.

Gifts on sale have been selected for Tesco by elf-like experts at The Entertainer. They include The Traitors board game, Hot Wheels Speedway Frenzy, Bluey Beach Cabin, 5 Surprise My Mini Baby, and X Shot Excel Blaster.

The 3 for 2 toy sale runs until December 4, so shoppers have a few weeks to stock up on stocking fillers.
