Tommy Carr, Saline star QB, flips commitment to Michigan football from Miami (Ohio)

Saline QB Tommy Carr on his biggest area of improvement over summer

Saline senior quarterback Tommy Carr discusses his work to improve the cerebral parts of his game and running an offense.

A Michigan legacy is on his way to Ann Arbor.

Tommy Carr, the grandson of Michigan football national championship winning coach Lloyd Carr, has flipped his commitment to the Wolverines. He was previously pledged to Miami (Ohio).

Carr is the younger brother of C.J. Carr, who is in his first-year starting QB for Notre Dame and has the Fighting Irish battling for a spot in the College Football Playoff. His father, Jason Carr, also played quarterback for Michigan.

Tommy Carr threw for 2,431 yards and 31 touchdowns with just three interceptions in the regular season for Saline. He also ran for seven touchdowns to lead the Hornets to an 8-1 regular season record and a 10-2 overall finish before they fell to powerhouse Cass Tech, 42-28, in a playoff game on Friday. He had two interceptions.

He also made history earlier this season when he was responsible for nine touchdowns in a single game.

Carr is a three-star recruit in the class of 2026, according to 247Sports composite rankings, rated the No. 18 player in Michigan, No. 49 quarterback in the country and No. 962 overall prospect.

He’s now the second quarterback in Michigan’s 2026 recruiting class that is ranked No. 10 in the nation by 247Sports, joining four-star Brady Smigiel from Newbury Park, California.

But he will also now be the second U-M QB on the roster who has a famous patriarch in their family.

Chase Herbstreit, son of former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit, is a true freshman on the roster this season and made headlines when he committed to the arch rivals of his father’s alma mater.

This story will be updated.
