Skate America 2025: Madison Chock and Evan Bates halfway to record-tying fifth ice dance win at home Grand Prix

Madison Chock and Evan Bates are on the cusp of a record-tying fifth title at Skate America.
The veteran U.S. ice dance duo clocked a 84.77 Saturday (15 November) afternoon in Lake Placid, New York, building a seven-point advantage over Marjorie LaJoie and Zachary Lagha of Canada at 77.42.
Chock/Bates first won Skate America in 2014, and added further titles in 2015, 2022 and 2023.
The three-time and reigning world champions are closing in on securing a spot at next month’s Grand Prix Final in Nagoya, Japan, where the top six teams in each discipline qualify.
Their Lenny Kravitz medley earned the biggest roar from the Lake Placid crowd in the rhythm dance, as the team registered top scores in both their technical and artistic elements.
Chock/Bates opened their Grand Prix series at Cup of China three weeks ago, claiming the win there. They’ve won eight Grand Prix golds overall.
“We’ve made a lot of improvements since Cup of China,” Chock, 33, said. “We performed those really well today, and so I’m just really proud of how we skated and how we enjoyed the moment together.”
France’s Evgeniia Lopareva and Geoffrey Brissaud sit third at 76.72.
USA’s Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko, favourites for the podium, sunk to fifth after their rhythm, with a 72.74. They were seventh overall when it came to their technical marks.
