Senators re-acquire Dennis Gilbert from Flyers for Max Guenette

The Ottawa Senators have acquired the 29-year-old blueliner from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for defenceman Max Guenette, the teams announced on Monday.

Gilbert, 29, played four games with the Senators last season after he was traded by the Buffalo Sabres in March. He eventually made his way to the Flyers via free agency, signing a one-year deal in the off-season.

The left-shot defenceman has logged 111 games in the NHL with five teams through six seasons, collecting three goals and 17 assists for 20 points in that time.

The Buffalo, N.Y., native has been playing with the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms this season and has yet to suit up for an NHL contest.

Gilbert was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks as a third-rounder in 2015, making his debut with the club in the 2018-19 season.

Meanwhile, Guenette hasn’t made an NHL appearance with the Senators since 2023-24. The former seventh-round pick in 2019 has logged eight NHL games between two seasons, going pointless with six blocks and six hits.

In 58 games with the Belleville Senators (Ottawa’s AHL affiliate) last season, Guenette racked up nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points and a plus-13.

Meanwhile, injured captain Brady Tkachuk is set to join the team on its road trip seven-game road trip, per head coach Travis Green.

Tkachuk has been out since Oct. 16 with a hand injury.
