Bears sign former Lions LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin

Ben Johnson is bringing in a player from his past.

The Bears signed former Lions linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin to the practice squad, the team announced Tuesday. The eight-year veteran was a special teams stalwart in Detroit, where he was named to the Pro Bowl in 2023.

From 2017-24, Reeves-Maybin played at least 60% of his team’s special teams snaps in all but one season. He’s played more than 60% of his team’s defensive snaps just once — in 2021, when he logged 11 starts.

Reeves-Maybin has appeared in 114 games since the Lions drafted him in Round 4 in 2017, but has started just 14 times. He left the Lions after 2021 to sign a two-year deal with the Texans. He lasted just one season there, though, and returned to Detroit in 2023. The Lions cut him in February, and he hasn’t played in a game since.

He also serves as the president of the NFLPA.

He took the roster spot that opened up when kicker Jake Moody signed with the Commanders.
