David Beckham once showed his kindness with a classy gesture at one of Gordon Ramsay’s dinner parties. Beckham enjoyed one of the most legendary careers in English football, winning a host of honours with Manchester United, including the Treble in 1999.

Spells at Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain followed before he finally called time on his playing career in his late 30s. Few sportspeople have reached the heights of fame and fortune that the former England captain has, given his off the field ventures. Even fewer are thought of as grounded and gentlemanly.

Beckham, 50, finally received his knighthood earlier this month, having been recognised for his services to sport and charity. Following the service at Windsor Castle, where he was knighted by King Charles III, Beckham was photographed leaving his close friend Ramsay’s Michelin-starred restaurant in Chelsea.

The football legend met Ramsay back in 2006, with the two celebrities’ friendship deepening after they both relocated to Los Angeles with their wives and children. According to Tash Pericic, former assistant manager to the superstar chef at his Michelin-starred Maze Grill in London, Beckham was one of the regular diners there.

Ms Pericic also recalled a time when she was helping to cater for a private Christmas time dinner at Ramsay’s home in London, where another interaction with Beckham left a lasting impression.

She explained in an interview with Insider that Ramsay, aside from getting irate about some chairs – “What the f*** do you call these chairs!? They’re so terrible I wouldn’t throw them on a f****** bonfire! – was mainly amicable.

She added: “Gordon turned to us and said, ‘Relax, you aren’t at work, enjoy, have a glass of champagne,’ so we had a Christmas Eve toast with Gordon.”

But Beckham’s politeness apparently stood out even more. She went on to explain how the former Manchester United star, accompanied by his wife, Victoria, was the only guest to introduce himself to the kitchen staff.

“A small gesture, but it says a lot,” she said. Her anecdote showed an appreciation for his kindness towards staff, who are very often under tremendous pressure to deliver in the hospitality sector, despite his own fame and success.
