Stranger Things Season 5: Does Will Have Powers Now?

Stranger Things Season 5 has taken off with its first set of episodes, and it’s safe to say that the series has managed to retain its innate ‘Strangeness’, living up to its name. However, we are not here to talk about what happened in the Upside Down in these new episodes, but something much bigger that could completely alter the direction in which this season is headed. In the final moments of Episode 4, we see Will stop Demogorgons from killing his friends using telepathic powers, but now the question is, how does Will actually have powers in Stranger Things Season 5, or was it a momentary outburst?

Since the very first season of Stranger Things, it has been established that Will shares an involuntary connection with Vecna, and it has been the defining factor of his character and his mental state. Before the release of these episodes, the first five minutes of Stranger Things Season 5 were revealed, where we see flashbacks all the way back to the first season.
It tells us that while Will was captured, Vecna did something to him, and because of that, the connection between the two of them exists. The clip also established that Will can see through the Demogorgons and is connected to their hive mind, so he also knows what they are thinking and where they are headed.
It is a part of him that he does not fully embrace, hence he struggles with it. However, in the final moments of Episode 4, Will finally embraces the connection he has to Vecna and the Upside Down, which gives him powers similar to those of Vecna and Eleven combined. He uses them to telepathically stop Demogorgons from killing his friends. So yes, Will does have powers in Stranger Things Season 5.
Now, we can see Will fight against Vecna along with Eleven and the team instead of being afraid of him. His mystical connection to Vecna, along with Will’s newfound powers, could hold the key to defeating the monsters and destroying Upside Down altogether.
As the Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 release date is a few weeks away, we might see more of Will’s powers in teasers and trailers for upcoming episodes.
