Highway 401 Eastbound Lanes Closed in Drumbo Due to Icy Conditions

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are continuing to keep all eastbound lanes of Highway 401 closed through Drumbo Friday morning due to hazardous icy conditions. The closure was initially reported shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday, with updates confirming that the situation persists into the early hours of Friday.

At 3:20 a.m., OPP reiterated that the eastbound lanes at Blenheim Road in Oxford County would remain shut for the time being. Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the area and plan alternate routes, while also adapting their driving to current weather conditions.

Reports from traffic callers to the local news station indicated that a serious crash occurred just east of Oxford Road 29, involving an 18-wheeler and several other vehicles on the eastbound side of the highway. This incident contributed to the ongoing closure.

By 6 a.m., the Ministry of Transportation confirmed the crash had been cleared; however, the lanes remained closed, with traffic completely at a standstill in the affected area. Although the westbound lanes are still open, they are moving very slowly.
