Islanders’ Palmieri out 6-8 months with torn ACL

New York Islanders forward Kyle Palmieri will miss between six and eight months because of a torn ACL, the team announced Saturday.
The 34-year-old winger suffered the injury in the second period of Friday’s 4-3 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on an awkward collision with Flyers defenceman Jamie Drysdale along the boards.
Somehow, Palmieri was able to pickpocket Philadelphia blueliner Emil Andrae as he skated toward the Isles’ bench and helped set up Emil Heineman’s goal on the ensuing play. He was credited with a secondary assist.
Palmieri had six goals and 12 assists for 18 points while averaging 18:53 of ice time per game in 25 contests prior to the injury.
This is Palmieri’s sixth season on Long Island after joining the team in a trade with the New Jersey Devils in 2021.
Palmieri is a veteran of 16 NHL seasons and has 276 career goals and 545 points in 925 regular-season games.
