While many kids dream of a snow day, one middle schooler decided to take a more scientific approach to calculate the odds.

David Sukhin started the Snow Day Calculator as side project when he was in middle school. Back then, he entered his own weather information for his school district and then use a formula he created to get a prediction, according to his website.

Now, the calculator automatically pulls weather information from weather.gov for any ZIP code in the United States or Canada. Each year, more than 5 million users visit the site.
